Frequently Asked Questions

Hiring Security Guards

How quickly can Security Now USA deploy guards to my site?

In many cases we can deploy within 24–48 hours of a signed agreement, depending on location, shift requirements, and whether armed or unarmed coverage is needed. For urgent needs like fire watch or emergency coverage after an incident, call 614-304-9651 and we’ll prioritize your request.

Do you provide both armed and unarmed guards?

Yes. We provide both armed and unarmed security officers depending on your site’s risk profile, legal requirements, and preference. During your consultation we’ll give you an honest recommendation — many sites are well served by unarmed officers, and we won’t upsell armed coverage where it isn’t warranted.

What’s the difference between hiring a security company and hiring a guard directly?

When you hire directly, you take on the employer’s burden: payroll, licensing verification, insurance, liability, training, and finding coverage when your guard calls in sick. A licensed security company carries the insurance and liability, verifies and maintains licensing, trains its officers, and guarantees coverage. If our officer can’t make a shift, that’s our problem to solve — not yours.

Are your guards licensed?

Yes. Every Security Now USA team member is licensed, and the company is fully licensed, bonded, and insured. We operate under Ohio Department of Public Safety PISGS licensing (Class A, License #201221002069), with our team built on decades of combined law enforcement and military experience.

What types of properties do you cover?

We provide security services across Central Ohio for a wide range of settings: construction sites, commercial and office buildings, retail, warehouses and logistics, residential communities, events, healthcare facilities, and more. If you have a property or situation that needs protecting, talk to us.

What happens if an officer cannot make a scheduled shift?

Coverage is our responsibility, not yours. When an officer cannot work a scheduled shift, we assign a replacement from our own registered staff. This is worth asking any provider directly, because it is where the difference between a real operation and a broker becomes visible. Some providers subcontract uncovered shifts to whoever is available, which means an unfamiliar person who may not be registered under the same license ends up on your property.

Do you provide security for construction sites?

Yes. Construction sites need a different approach than fixed commercial properties, because the perimeter moves as the build progresses and what you are protecting changes from phase to phase. We provide overnight and weekend coverage, access control during active hours, documented patrols, and GPS-tracked officers on every shift. See our construction site security page for details.

Licensing & Compliance

How do I verify a security company’s license in Ohio?

Ask for the PISGS license number directly, then confirm the license type covers the work you are hiring for. Ohio regulates private security through the Private Investigator and Security Guard Services program under the Department of Public Safety, and security guard services and private investigation are licensed differently. A legitimate provider will give you the number without hesitation. Security Now USA operates under Ohio PISGS Class A License #201221002069, which covers both. Our guide to what Ohio law requires when you hire security guards walks through the full verification process.

What additional requirements apply to armed officers in Ohio?

Under Ohio Revised Code 4749.10, an officer carrying a handgun on duty must complete a twenty hour basic firearm training program at a school approved by the Ohio Peace Officer Training Commission. Carrying a firearm other than a handgun requires an additional five hours of training specific to that weapon. Qualified officers carry a firearm-bearer endorsement on their PISGS registration card, and Ohio limits them to the firearm types shown on that endorsement. The certification does not last indefinitely, so officers requalify to keep it current.

Are your officers employees or subcontractors?

Our officers are employees, and they are registered with PISGS as Ohio requires. This matters more than it might appear. Ohio requires licensed providers to register their security employees with the state within a defined window after hire, and a provider using independent contractors instead is operating under different rules. That difference can affect your own exposure if an incident occurs, so it is worth asking any provider directly.

Pricing & Contracts

How much does hiring a security guard cost?

Pricing depends on several factors: armed vs. unarmed, shift hours (overnight and weekend coverage differ from daytime), the number of officers, site risk level, and contract length. Rather than quoting a misleading flat number, we price each engagement to the actual requirement. Contact us for a quote — it’s fast and there’s no obligation.

Do I have to sign a long-term contract?

We offer both ongoing contracts and short-term engagements. Temporary needs — special events, fire watch during a sprinkler outage, coverage after a break-in — don’t require committing to a year of service.

Our Technology

How do you track officers on site?

Our officers are GPS tracked on every shift, so we know where they are and where they have patrolled. Patrols and incidents are documented and reported to you, so you have a record of your coverage rather than just our word for it.

Do I get reports on what happens during shifts?

Yes. Our officers document their shifts, and incidents are reported to you promptly. Combined with GPS tracking of every shift, you get a documented record of your coverage, not just an invoice at the end of the month.

Fire Watch

What is a fire watch and when do I need one?

A fire watch is a trained officer who continuously patrols your property watching for fire hazards when your fire protection systems are down or when high-risk work is underway. Fire codes generally require one when a fire alarm system is out of service for more than 4 hours in a 24-hour period, or a sprinkler system is out for more than 10 hours — and during hot work like welding and cutting. Your local fire marshal (the "authority having jurisdiction") makes the final call. See our Fire Watch Services page for full details.

Can my regular employee just do the fire watch?

Generally no — fire watch personnel must be trained for the duty and, in most situations, can’t perform other jobs at the same time. Assigning an untrained employee can leave you out of compliance, exposed to fines, and potentially void your insurance during the outage. A professional fire watch officer is the safe answer on every front.
